Chiquibul Forest Reserve
Chiquibul Forest Reserve is perhaps one of the richest places in the world in terms of biodiversity. The Reserve is next to the Mountain Pine Ridge on the southern border. It encompasses 265,894 acres of uninterrupted tropical moist broadleaf rainforest. Within it’s heart is the dynamic ancient Mayan city of Caracol, home to the endangered Scarlet Macaw, the Keel-billed Motmot, Jaguar, Puma, Ocelot, Howler and Spider Monkey, the Solitary Eagle plus exotic species of plant and wildlife too numerous to mention.
