Around the Lodge
Mountain Equestrian Trails is located in Cayo, Belize's largest district of 2,061 square miles, a large percentage of which are protected lands. Cayo is famous for diversity and adventure and offers the intrepid opportunities to explore and discover a wild and beautiful country.
Cayo District
Cayo District is a ‘must do’ for diversity and adventure. The people of Cayo include Hispanics, Creole, Maya, Mennonites, Garifunas, Europeans and North Americans, all co-existing peacefully. Cayo is well known for its friendly people and cooperative community.
From the flat savanna near Belmopan, Cayo proceeds up the Maya Mountains to Guatemala. Cayo contains crystalline caves, cascading waterfalls, and multitudes of Mayan ruins, pure rivers and friendly people. Some of the villages are San Ignacio, Benque Viejo, Cristo Rey, San Antonio and Belmopan, and others with more fanciful names like Unitedville, Black-Man Eddy, Camalote, Roaring Creek, Valley of Peace, Cotton Tree, and Teakettle. Spanish Lookout is a Mennonite community of farmers who provide much of the agricultural for Belize.
